Bread, probably the oldest prepared food

By: Wendy A Belanger

We have been told there is a lot of religion in a loaf of bread.  Bread making can be traced back to the earliest of times. The simplest and doubtless the first made was a thin bread of water and flour. Bread making indeed is an old art. Bread has been called the staff of live and indeed for some it surely is. In these modern times we have a wide variety of healthy, nutritious and delicious flours to choose from, a few are rye, corn, rice, oat, barley, buckwheat, soybean, and even garbanzo. There are different class of wheat, such as hard and soft. The difference is the gluten content, the hard is better for bread and the soft better for pastries. There is something very satisfying about making a beautiful loaf of bread for your family and even a gift for your neighbors. Check out the "Classes" category on this site and know that you are invited to a bread making class April 16.  There will recipes, and tastings aplenty.
